Ambit Energy Pennsylvania Service Areas, Rates & Plans
Ambit Energy launched service in Pennsylvania (its fifth state) in spring 2011, further advancing Ambit’s expansion in the Northeast. Ambit currently offers service in six territories. Some of these include electricity, natural gas, or both:
Metropolitan Edison (Med-Ed) provides electric service to those in the southern and south eastern areas of Pennsylvania
Penelec (Pennsylvania Electric Company) provides electric service for northern and central Pennsylvania, which includes portions of Montgomery, Chester, Bucks and Delaware Counties
Penn Power energizes customers along the west central Pennsylvania/Ohio border in parts of Crawford, Mercer, Lawrence, Beaver and Butler Counties
West Penn Power provides electricity to counties across the southwestern, north central and southern border of Pennsylvania
PECO provides electricity to the southeastern part of the state
PPL (Pennsylvania Power and Light) delivers electricity to 29 counties in central and eastern Pennsylvania
Duquesne Light provides electricity for southwestern Pennsylvania
Columbia Gas provides gas to Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania
National Fuel delivers gas to Northwestern Pennsylvania, including Erie and Sharon
Peoples Natural Gas supplies gas to Southwestern Pennsylvania
Ambit Energy Pennsylvania Service Plans
Standard Variable: This variable plan has a competitive rate that can change on a monthly basis depending on the current market conditions. Most customers will pay a higher rate with this plan.
Standard Fixed: Ambit also offers a fixed rate plan so customers can lock in a low per kWh rate for a 12-month period. This is our most popular option. Also, there is no early termination fee for Pennsylvania customers, so locking in a rate that will not change during the contract term is an easy choice for customers.
Green Variable & Fixed: The Green-e certified plan is slightly higher because Ambit must mark up the price necessary to purchase RECs (renewable energy certificates). These offset the usage and qualify as “green” energy. The extra money paid for a green plan is directed to local renewable energy initiatives in New Jersey. There are fixed and variable plan options.
